Host Monster

The Good: All in one single plan; Excellent customer support and free domain privacy. All for an affordable price.

The Bad: Downtimes reported by a few users; Lack expansion of MySQL database from 100 if needed; Limitations of number of account emails that can be sent on a single day;

The Bottom Line: HostMonster offers a winning package of a quality web Hosting for all webmaster kinds for a low price.

Host Monster is aimed at budget-minded webmasters, especially those interested in huge disk space and bandwidth limits. But it's sure to have an even broader appeal when users consider his hosting network level features like SSH access, PHP 4/5 (including support for custom PHP.INI files!), Perl, Python, Fantastico, Ruby On Rails and SSL for just $6.95/mo. It doesn't have ASP, ASP.net, dedicated ip1 or phpMyAdmin. However, a lot of webmasters neither want those extras nor care to pay for them.

From a distance, Host Monster looks identical to its older sister BlueHost.com (is known that both are the same company). In fact, they share the same infrastructure, the same support staff and the same basic features. Host Monster contains a slight improvement in cost-benefit as not only it is cheaper but it contains a few more features compared to BlueHost.com. HostModo thinks that BlueHost.com customers have priority support compared to Host Monster. Anyway Host Monster has a very good customer support.

Host Monster boasts the same huge disk space (999999 GB) and bandwidth (999999 GB) with free setup as lot of his competitors but ups the ante with hosting features, such unlimited domain hosting, free domain forever and free domain privacy.

Host Monster support MySQL and includes a big number of MySQL databases (100) on its single plan, which certainly soften the blow of no phpMyAdmin to manage it, but we still wouldn't mind having that option. A problem that may affect a very few webmasters is that there is no way to increase the number of databases from 100 (no add-on plan). A hundred MySQL databases is a huge number of databases, but if have a very big site and need more than 100 databases you will be in trouble.

Other Host Monster limitation is that you can send 50 emails per hour per account limited in 10 MB of attachment per email, which obviously is a very high limit that will not affect 99% of the webmasters. Also we have reports that Host Monster has increased the number of emails limit per hour in 10x (500 instead of 50 per hour) for free for some webmasters upon request.

Host Monster customers websites runs over high performance quad processor servers with 24/7 network monitoring, so you may expect to get a good performance server. However, we're a bit concerned about the uptime thing: a few users had downtime problems. Most of Host Monster users never experienced their sites offline, but some users had downtime problems. Worse is that some of them were unable to obtain refund for 99.9% uptime rule even Host Monster assuming the downtime problem. But as we already said, most of the webmasters not experienced any downtime with Host Monster.

Host Monster uses CPanel control panel and doesn't offer a complete feature overhaul, but you get a collection of small but noteworthy aspects. To start, Host Monster supports Fantastico that gives to your clients the ability to automatically install several popular Open Source Applications. SSH also is available for free upon request.

We tested Host Monster help center, and the results were excellent. We enjoyed the fast 30 minutes ticket reply. Support center also includes Instant support like 24/7 phone support, dedicated forum discussion and knowledge base. However, we noticed that Host Monster knowledge base and its forum lacks of info as neither of which are extensive. We also were able to obtain quality answers from phone support regarding advanced technical queries without problem.

Best web hosting in industry

Rating 10 out of 10

Recommends: Yes

Pros: price, bandwidth, feature.

Cons: They don't have a dedicated server plan.

Hostmonster offers a very good value web hosting nowadays. They have a perfect combination of feature, bandwidth, disk quota and customer support in web hosting business. I have a large number of sites under the same account and the sky is the limit: they allow you to host unlimited domain and subdomains on the same account. Their support are also very useful.

Recommends: Yes

Pros: Everything: nice support, fast server, no server down.

Cons: none

Im using HostMonster for 30 months now and I'm extremely happy with them. I host a very large forum on HostMonster and have no problems until now They have a efficient, friendly and fast support, its nice to have a real 24/7 support with a lot of options with no extra fee. I'm really amazed due I recently found that they also provide vBulletin forum support. I do recommend Host Monster, no one won't be disappointed of using them.

If you have doubts between Godaddy and Hostmonster

Rating 9 out of 10

Recommends: Yes

Pros: nice support; Nice Control Panel (CPanel); and huge disk space.

Cons: they limit the number of emails sent every they to avoid spam

I have moved from Godaddy to hostmonster recently and I have to say that Hostmonster is better compared to Godaddy - I have not experience from other hosting companies as I hosted my site with Godaddy for a long time and now I'm amazed technically for using Hostmonster. The problem about Godaddy (that made me move to hostmonster) is that they have a huge marketed name to protect. So they are very restrictive, this is not the case of hostmonster. I had a problem with Godaddy that a spyware inserted malicious code PHP using my ftp connection to my site (ok its my fault) after someone complained about it, Godaddy shut down my site immediately without telling me what was going on - I only put my site back on air after I showed them that there was a lot of their customers using the same code without any bad intention. Another pont is that my old host has a customized version of Plesk control panel and hostmonster runs the last CPanel version what is a plus (those who knows both CPs knows what I'm talking about). Godaddy disk space was very small, now hostmonster provide me a huge disk space that if you stop to think about it, you will see that it is virtually unlimited - this gives you the advantage that is something out of the things list that you need to concern. The only issue I had with hostmonster is that I had a over CPU usage due to a bug on my code that I didn't know, they immediately contacted me telling about a overload CPU usage by my site and offered to help to solve the problem, but didn't shut down my site or made pressure/ threats about the issue (probably due they do not have a dedicated server plan to force me to move to it) - I just solved the bug and now everything is fine. I noticed a lot of bad reviews about hostmonster here -but you always will find some people that are not satisfied with the provider and shut around there.

Really stable, great support, excellent price

Rating 8 out of 10

Recommends: Yes

Pros: Price

Cons: No reseller accounts

I am a web developer and have several sites on Hostmonster and I gotta say that so far everything has been great! No I don't work for them, I work for myself and soon for a really big company that does software development, anyway I digress. The only reason why I am not giving them a 10/10 is because I would really love to do a reseller account and they don't provide them. But their support is awesome, they really are quick and even their holding process is great -- you call and get put on hold but every few seconds you hear an automated voice saying "You are caller number 6 in the queue" and so on until you are like number 2 and then you're next. Great feature. The reason I called support was to have them install this PEAR class I needed and they were awesome about doing it. :) OH and I signed up for their affiliate program and love it! If you have lots of clients looking for a host it's a great way to make extra cash. :D So yeah I'd go with Hostmonster if you need a stable site.

fast and stable

Rating 7 out of 10

Recommends: Yes

Pros: fast setup and very stable network

Cons: Sometimes you need to wait a long time in support line

I give a 7/10 to Hostmonster. They are very easy to setup, has a nice and stable network and an useful support too. I used to do the mistake of hosting on windows, now I know the Linux is faster (hostmonster only allows Unix hosting there). Sometimes you need to wait a big longer on line to only in the end talk with a dummy employee, but normally they really helps you.

it sux!!

Rating 3 out of 10

Recommends: No

Pros: price

Cons: terrible host

Just a couple of weeks using Hostmonster and I figured out that it is a terrible hosting company: I saw a lot of strange positive reviews around there andInow I'm sure that this is the case of their own staff writing it. Some of Hostmonster issues I found: - Very frequent downtimes; - Take hours to upload your site due they ftp server is completely slow - Your site is very slow when is up due to processor quota usage.

problems after certain time

Rating 2 out of 10

Recommends: No

Pros: cheap

Cons: they do not reply you

Ok, After a while dealing with Hostmonster I noticed that the nice times went over. It was everything ok, but they decided to become bad guys with me: My account just stopped working from nothing. I still don't know what happened, I think that is some kind of disk problem. I only know that after this, my control panel stop working and I began to get corrupted log data. I tried to contact them, but support failed to reply my queries after a week. I believed in user reviews, but what I think that is strange is that 2 thumbs up reviewer names are the same of the HM staff guys.
