Easy CGI - Editor Review
The Good: Relatively inexpensive Windows hosting plan; has its own, easy to use custom Control Panel that is very frequently upgraded and has a wide range of feature set; Has fast servers; Includes free Domain Privacy on any hosting plan; Offers a great service in terms of Active Server Pages making Easy CGI one of the most versatile Windows Hosting Provider; The Bad: His support is sometimes unfriendly and has inadequate response time; didn’t managed to solve quickly some recent problem that left some of his customers in the dark; Support is not 24 hours as they claims too; The Bottom Line: Easy CGI has nice price but won't be a good choice for those that demands quick support responses. It suffers a bit regarding support response time and less impressive reliability compared to the best Web Hosting Companies, but its aggressive price and rich control panel really increase its appeal.

For Windows Web Hosting lovers with the means to go ASP.net, Easy CGI
Hosting Plans should be considered the top of the list, but as all Web
Hosting Plans we've tested - its advantage on the static pages hosting
is difficult to discern. That doesn't prevent this Top Hosting Company
from compare well against other heavy-hitters Hosting Providers around
there, including IX Web Hosting and 1&1. Easy CGI sells more of its Windows
Hosting Plans than any other hosting company in the world, so it stands
to reason that Easy CGI has more Control Panel features offered than its
many competitors. It has just one kink in the works that is its non
excellence in support area compared to other Web Hosting Companies on
the market - We do complain about its not-best-friend support spirit and
its fault to keep their server 99.9% up for all his customers as they
claim, but those issues don't prevent it from earning our highest praise
as they has a very competitive price and has so many Hosting features.
While Linux Hosting Plans continue to duke it out in the minds and
hearts of most Webmasters around the world, the one arena where Windows
Web Hosting provided by Easy CGI still pummels PHP technology is the
ability to use ODBC databases with web pages. No, discerning
Linux-philes will not find fault with of PHP feature: Easy CGI fully
supports PHP 5, even they would probably pronounce Easy CGI' ASP.net a
great value. Easy CGI hosting plans do not misses any feature, hits the
Webmasters heart, and comes with a custom and complete control panel
that's very good and will to satisfy most webmasters, especially due to
the plan price.
The Easy CGI hosting plan top selling point is its big disk space of
350 GB and bandwidth of 3500 GB that they provide on their basic
hosting plan. That's more than 100x more as most Hosting plans provide
for the same price, and it allows any webmaster to have virtually
unlimited disk space as well a monthly transfer that probably 99% of the
sites will never be close to this limit. Overall, Easy CGI offers decent
service for a Windows Hosting Plan provider, especially considering its
price. But while competing it to most companies from the same price
we've reviewed recently it falls somewhat providing their so called
24/7x365 phone support: Our biggest complaint is about the overnight
calls that we did and got redirected to an answer machine - this is not
good for the price, also they failed to return our call after we left a
message, but in other cases our call was answered and the support was
competent enough to answer our doubts. But it is still an area it could
also stand some improvement.
Regarding reliability, as we precious expected Easy CGI provides a fast
and excellent response to external and internal network queries and also
has no lag while connecting to internal databases delivering an
excellent user navigation experience. Site images loads extremely fast
thanks to the low average CPU load that Easy CGI keeps on their servers. We
complained about some problems as some Easy CGI customers suffered regarding
serious server outages during 2007 and a bit of false support presence
while dealing with emergencies, but otherwise uptime was normal, we also
would have liked to see a network status page for Easy CGI. While we liked
the fast loading pages, we missed the ability to upload our small test
page using Easy CGI ftp on a reasonable time as uploading was very slow.
While dealing to its custom control panel, Easy CGI throws in the
requisite conveniences: The first point is that they support all kind of
databases and related features on the market (MySQL, MS Access, MsSQL,
DSNs ) that will satisfy a good number of customer -- The exciting point
is that their control panel is frequently upgraded as expected from a
custom control panel. In addition to the standard feature found in other
hosting companies, Easy CGI throws in a couple extras. The OSCommerce
feature is said to have a rich set of
out-of-the-box online shopping cart functionality. You have also
"Community Server Standard 2.0" in all hosting plan that is a social
networking platform built to help you communicate more effectively with
your customers. Control Panel conveniences also include Website Builder,
which offers a lot of nice templates options. There's also Spam and
Virus Blocking features. In addition to the databases options we
mentioned previously, you have also phpMyAdmin that is a web-based tool
that handles administration MySQL databases.
Regarding again customer Support, Easy CGI delivers a good and competent
support quality due Easy CGI solid tradition of hosting business. While
certainly not the best support infrastructure on the market, Easy CGI holds
its own support staff. But we could wish a more friendly attitude with
his customers and less failure while returning customer calls, but
considering overall analysis Easy CGI delivers a nice support for the
price.
As you might expect from a pure Windows Hosting Provider, Easy CGI
performed very well with ASP.net. Via both hosting and VPS plans, the
control panel perfectly fits developers' needs, there was no missing
feature on this area, and we could find everything that an ASP or PHP
developer could expect from a good hosting company.

No problems so far
Rating 9 out of 10
Recommends: Yes
Pros: Friendly support
Cons: Documentation do not help
I have been using Easy cgi for the last months and they are great. I just moved from a traumatic hosting experience and now I'm very fine with Easy cgi.
Their online documentation never helped me. But I never had problems with them and I contact support by phone every week to solve my doubts and always got a nice support.
I don't know how support will deal with me when I get some serious problem, but until now they've been very useful.

Still downtime problems
Rating 6 out of 10
Recommends: Yes
Pros: Nice feature, Nice Support
Cons: Too many downtimes recently
I'm a EASYCGI customer for the last 3 years, but I don't know why this year (2007) they began to experience frequently and long period downtimes. this is the last message I received trying to explain the downtime:
"At approximately 3:20pm EST yesterday (10/17/2007), we experienced an internal network hardware malfunction. While EasyCGI is fully redundant, this malfunction caused routing problems that resulted in temporary downtime for certain pieces of our network. Because of this downtime you will have experienced slow response times or random inability to utilize services provided by EasyCGI. EasyCGI was immediately aware of this issue and was working to restore services. Service for most customers was completely restored by 4:00pm EST, while a small portion of customers experienced problems through the evening. These later issues involved large DNS servers (Yahoo, AOL, Verizon) and their periodic inability to resolve domains on our network. We worked directly with CISCO to identify and resolve this issue as soon as possible. All network connectivity was fully restored by 12:30am EST on 10/18/2007. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you and appreciate your patience." --
Hope that they manage to sove these issues as I like their hosting service (I still recommend EASYCGI but it looks like EASYCGI is sinking... this is very sad

Downtimes + no support = problems.
Rating 5 out of 10
Recommends: No
Pros: Cheap packages
Cons: support is useless, recent downtime issues
I've hosted my website with them for the last years and had no problems for years: sweet setup, easy to use control panel, they answered my weekend questions with no problem... I was very happy with them.
But lately this year (2007) everything changed. the problems began when suddenly our host began to turn off for some periods: 4 hours, 6 hours. About 4 times a week - and finally our site went down for 4 DAYS!!!!
The problem is that our email also was down on this period and we use email to communicate with our customers - its very frustating you run an ecommerce business and can not communicate with your customers for an entire businesss week.
The support service is not useful: They didn't manage to answer me quick enough and when the answered they paste some formal message like
"We are sorry (...) but some of our networks nodes are down (...) hope to solve the problem soon."
After my site come back, I noticed that my data was a bit old (they probably receoved a 4 days old backup).
I had a feeling that the company was having some serious problems. But recently they managed to solve the problems and now my site is stable again.
I'm still a bit disappointed, but the major problem is that I do not trust in them anymore after these downtimes and support problems.
I'm still there due of the price and that I took some time to know how to use their control panel, now I'm an expert using their panel and I don't want to learn from the zero, this is why I'm still there.

They've kicked my site out
Rating 4 out of 10
Recommends: No
Pros: good support
Cons: kicks you saying that you are using too much CPU
I've used EasyCGI to host my photo site gallery - I'm a photographer and I have about 4000 pictures stored on my site. I used only about 30 GB of monthly transfer and 2 GB of files. My site also allow other photographers to upload their pictures via ftp and host their picture at my site.
So EasyCGI guys contacted me telling that they would close my account due my PHP system would be using too much CPU load for a sharing hosting account.
After exchanging a few messages with support (that could not provide more data about the CPU load that I was using) I saw that I had no change to continue with them - so I went out.

EasyCGI support is the worst ever
Rating 3 out of 10
Recommends: No
Pros: Cheap, good features
Cons: Run for your life if anything goes wrong
Great features, very cheap, the stuff EasyCGI offers is very good indeed.
Until something goes wrong. Their support is the worst I have ever encountered from a major hosting company.
The problems with EasyCGI are frequent. They will try and blame you for the problems, then spend almost a week - while your site is down - looking into what's wrong.
Then they'll spend a few more days fixing it. And a few more days writing to apologise that they're taking so long. Then a few more days apologising for the error - which is always their own - and finally a few more fixing the problem.
I wouldn't recommend EasyCGI to Saddam Hussein.

Do not EVER sign up with these cowboys
Rating 1 out of 10
Recommends: No
Pros: None
Cons: Everything
Seriously one of the world's worst hosting companies.
Please don't every sign up with EasyCGI. I would hate you to go through what we've been through just this month, let alone this year.
At the time of writing this review, our site has been down for 3 days.
There is no such thing as EasyCGI support, it simply doesn't exist.
This is, quite seriously, the worst hosting company in the world. Run for your life.

Used to be great, not good any more
Rating 1 out of 10
Recommends: No
Pros: Used to be a good service
Cons: Its now absolutely terrible
As others have said, this migration has been an absolute nightmare. I've been with EasyCGI for nearly 7 years now with multiple sites. For 6 1/2 years, they were great. Now, they have completely fallen apart. Examples:
1. All of our FTP accounts (we have 1 for each customer) have been opened up to the ENTIRE site (rather than the directory that the customer should only have access to).
2. The tools that we had used to upload files (these were ones that EasyCGI supported ... ASPUpload) now suddenly don't work. They "path" has been changed. Simple enough except that nobody at EasyCGI can tell us the new path. We spent about 8 hours on phone calls / Live Chat to receive no answer there.
3. The form mailer that they supported (ASPEmail) no longer works. Again, redesign.
4. Their support went from being OK to being horrific. If you call in, you'll be placed on hold for about 20 minutes at which point you'll have to leave a message. Leaving a message apparently goes into a black hole as we have NEVER received a call back (and we've probably left close to a dozen messages now).
5. The LIVE chat support personnel create all sorts of frustrations as well as these folks must be new to a computer and English. After challenging you with "sign up with a security question", they can't even see it. Last Friday, I created a security question 3 times. Each request was as though we had just started chatting. After 4 hours of non-sense like "please give me a couple of minutes to research your issue", they told me it would be escalated. Obviously, that is their way to drop the chat. I've never received a response.
6. We have been double and tripple billed. They said its because of the way the new plan is set up. That doesn't make any sense, but that is their excuse.
7. Our site will completely go down with no warning. And, its down for days, not minutes.
So, I am now faced with moving all of our sites which is a tremendous task. But, we simply can't attempt to conduct business like this any further.

Horrible hosting company
Rating 1 out of 10
Recommends: No
Pros: Cute looking website
Cons: Worst support in the industry
A few months ago, I chose EasyCGI to host a new dotnetnuke based website that I setup for a client. They seemed to be a great provider for a decent price. Recently, EasyCGI went through a migration to move websites to a new server setup. This is when I found out that their support is horrific! When you call in to report a problem the customer service reps. create a "ticket" in the system. Then "Tier 2" support is assigned these tickets for correction. And let me just say, "Tier 2" support is about as useless as lip balm in a leper colony. They constantly misunderstand simple questions and issues and there's no way that you can contact them on the phone. My client's site has been down for 3 weeks now! This is unacceptable. Learn from my mistakes and don't ever pick this company for your hosting needs. The first time you need support you'll realize that root canals are less painful!

A disaster
Rating 1 out of 10
Recommends: No
Pros: Slightly faster than Webstrike
Cons: Nothing works including their support!
They are a complete disaster. I have never dealt with a more infuriating bunch of idiots. I was happily hosting my sites with Webstrike until the Endurance International Group bought out Webstrike and pushed all of the customers across to EasyCGI.
When they performed the migration they actually changed the code in my websites to fit with their new hosting platform. And that is surely enough to avoid them right there. Of course, after the migration none of my sites worked , despite numerous attempts to get the support team to fix it. They simply won’t fix it.
And finally, to the former Webstrike customers and the general hosting community out there that have been burned by EasyCGI, please take the time to post as many honest (bad) reviews about these idiots at EasyCGI so that the Endurance International Group lose every penny of their investment when EasyCGI plunges to the depths of insolvency.
I had to bail out and move to another host. Trust me, these guys have few clues as to what they are doing, and really don’t seem to care. It’s like they have given up on what they do.
To all of the top executives at the Endurance International Group, which includes:
Steve Sydness — Chief Executive Officer
Hari Ravichandran — Founder and Executive Vice President
Joe Bardenheier — VP, Corporate Development
Gary Engel — VP, Customer Support
Christina Lane — Vice President of Finance
David Bryson — VP, General Counsel
Mitch Haber — VP, Product Management
Jean McCarthy — VP, Product Marketing
Eric Rayleonard — Director of Customer Experience
You’re not very good at your jobs are you? A lot of people have escaped from EasyCGI’s pathetic and destructive service and lost money in doing so. I’m one of them and I am so relieved to have left those idiots who only destroy websites. So I have lost time, money and customers because corporate businesses like EIG have no clue what customer service is, but only choose to follow the bottom line every time.
EIG’s mission statement is:
“Delight customers and help them succeed by profitably delivering superior solutions and an outstanding customer experience.”
In which case, each of you are simply a fake. I’m sure you all get paid well, which of course you shouldn’t. And I’m sure allof you even sleep well at night, which of course you shouldn’t.
